Zines I Want To Make Wishlist 2026 – 2027

Hey everyone! It’s been a minute, and I’m dealing with a 2 week “do nothing but heal” recovery period and 4 weeks of more recovery for a large bunion removal surgery. In the meantime, I felt it was a nice time to catch up on all my to-do’s for my art business Ovaettr Art & Zine Distro. One of the things on my “to do” list was to create a “Zine Wishlist” to get my ideas that have been floating around in offshoot BlueSky posts here and there onto paper, er, digital paper per say.

So let’s dive in!

  • All The Cats I’ve Ever Known
    • A zine about the cats I grew up with, loved, and lost. I want to profile all of them and celebrate them in an introductory comic style quarter-size page zine of about 24 to 32 pages depending on how in-depth I get in the thumbnail sketching / storytelling phase. The zine is about loving and losing animals in our lives but their impact never leaving us truly.
  • A Tiny Recipe: Chorizo Eggs, Potato, and Bacon Breakfast Burritos
    • A small taste of what my Mom and I’s family recipe cookbook will be, more or less a test run, because we make a unique form of “chorizo eggs” that takes chorizo in a cast iron pan and cooks it down to a liquid reduction sauce that we then crack the eggs into and turn them into ORANGE EGGS packed with protein. They are a big part of my life and the flavor of them reminds me of home. I want to share this one specific recipe this year to get an idea / test run for the cookbook project my mom and I want to do in 2027.
  • Ye Olde Pokemon Game Lore of 90’s – Y2K Yore
    • Remember the time before the internet answering every question you had? I want to recollect a time when he said she said was the only way you learned new things about the latest Pokemon games and the legendary pokemon you could find in them – The Mew behind the pickup truck, MissingNO. in the ocean sea alongside Cinnabar, the other nonsensical lore like “if you walk up to 1 million steps in the Ilex Forest grass you’ll unlock Celebi” and the mysterious hacking techniques I couldn’t replicate in today’s world using a Gameboy color and sheer curiosity – ripping the game cartridge out mid save to create a duplicated Pikachu, in my own experience, mine was cursed with a “????” name that expanded way beyond the confines for its digital presence. This Pikachu was strange, a shapeshifter, etc. I want to build up the lore tidbits of this into a story of the cursed glitchachu as a personal experience in the 90s – 2000s.
  • Oekakis and What They Meant to Me – a WIP for more early 2000s culture stuff
  • Poetry Zines –
    • Poetry About My Friends in Palestine
    • Poetry from My Notes App
  • A Collection of my Art Therapy Experiences
  • Everyday Useful Spells for New Witches of All Ages – this zine would touch bases on general spells that are everyday use for witches learning how to implement the belief system into their lifestyles.
    • Calling of the Directions / Spirits into your circle, casting circles, and the Sacred Spaces
    • Cord-cutting/burning between two candles (ending a relationship or connection to something negative)
    • Carving Runes / Sigils into Food – Ingest the blessings, protection, etc + some suggested symbols to use
    • Dream Journalling practice information and techniques to remember your dreams and draw insight from them
    • Simple Tarot Divination Spreads (3, with examples of card layout)
  • How I Transitioned from F to M as a Genderqueer Person (Resource zine and personal exp on the medical and legal side of things)
  • More sketchbook zines, quarterly release maybe?
  • A Zine documenting my 1.5 months living homeless in my car in Dallas, TX while finishing college for media arts and animation with ways to help the homeless in your area + Denton at the back

The following are older ideas that I have backburnered but still very much want to spend the needed time on them as projects.

  • THEY LIVE!: The Ultimate Intro to Non-Binary Identities, an Index Zine
    • This zine we are grateful to have led a successful research campaign for in prior years (2024) and hang onto the data needed to create this mega dream of a zine. We hope to bring it to life soon. It will serve as a means of education on non-binary people, our existences and identities.
  • Trans Life Denton – A bi-quarterly trans magazine featuring local trans voices, art, writing, and contributions to building culture and community in the Dentroplex Area.
    • A dream come true would be seeing this on local shelves in my city of Denton, TX.
    • Here is my gameplan for the outline of each issue:
      • letter from the editor
      • events
      • art
      • music
      • lit
      • resources
      • job board
      • queer personal ads
      • 6 months ahead tarot reading (between issues, if successful, may become fully quarterly 4 times a year!

Ultimately I want to reach having created and self-published 50 total zines as a zinester sooner than later and hope that these can help me reach that goal!

Thanks for reading.
