The Denton Zine Map! A Collab with DZAP

For the READiculous BOOK Palooza finale event on February 28th, 2026 at Tom’s Daiquiri, Rachel Weaver of The Denton Zine and Art Party and Orion Fern of Ovaettr Art & Zine Distro worked together collaboratively to bring to life the Denton Zine Map!

The project brought together their local knowledge of where all the zine-making, trading, selling, finding, printing and distributing happenings are around Denton, TX! As zines soar in popularity, especially within an authoritative regime that is built to violently stifle the free independent voices of the people, people crave zines now more than ever. Making them, reading them, sharing them, helping themselves and others by using them.

The Zine Scene is thriving and alive. The Zine never died, and never will. No single generation was the life and death of the zine, because we continuously look back to our ancestors work. Our work today – as in the general synopsis of the community – is standing upon the shoulders of the giants that came before us. They left large footsteps worth following. If you have been curious about all things ZINES please reach out to these places and community markers on the map! We would love to see you pop up at some local zine events!

Zines, in contrast to commercial media, are the actual heartbeat of the communities and a more accurate snapshot of the times that they come from. In times of revolution, or government neglect, zines lit the way and kept people connected – speaking to each other, about real issues they faced, or on the fun side of zine-making with fan-zines they’d discuss things they LOVED too. Commercial media is tailored to a specific message society leaders and advertisers want you to have or feel at any point in time. We often obfuscate the realities of what people faced during turbulent eras that are better understood through reading self-published, uncensored work. Zines provide a world of freedom – a way to speak about what you want to speak about, an avenue for reaching others and making connections on topics that you know a lot about or that are a part of your origin story, your own history, or your own lived experiences. So, what’s stopping you? Join the Zine Making Revolution TODAY!

How To Use A Zine Map:

  • Add addresses in your phone’s GPS favorites folder or in “Places I Want To Go” especially for Little Free Libraries that might be easy to miss otherwise.
  • Follow social media accounts associated with events, workshops, festivals or more and keep an eye open for when they post about upcoming things you can attend.
  • Visit the locations (and support the small businesses associated) to find zines regularly to scope out when new zines are dropped, pick one or two up and add them to your growing collection, and BONUS POINTS if you reach out to the zinester and follow them on social media if they use it or just reach out and say thanks for the zine!
  • Sign up for a Zine-Making Workshop at the Denton Maker Center if you would like some help and aid in getting going! Make your very first zine with the guidance of a local zinester!
  • Come to Zine Trading Night at the end of every month at the Denton Maker Center to share your wealth of zine collections by making copies to trade with new friends you’ll meet there! Or trade away your newest zine creation, get it in peoples hands!
  • Start making your own zines TODAY!

Here is a detailed list of each stop on the map! Let’s have fun!
