Hey everyone! It has been a long while since we did our last Meet A Queer Artist feature article, but we are back!
This go around I bring you a really cool Fakemon, creature and character designer that is one of my best friends. She has more talents than just art too!
Let’s dive right into the questions we asked her and take a gander at her beautiful artwork while we’re at it. Here we go!
1) Introduce yourself; as a person, artist, and queer community member!
My name is Crystal.
Queer, trans, witch, empath, healer, artist, etc. I am a trans woman and bearded lady.
I began medically transitioning in early 2022, and I am growing into the person I was always meant to be because of it. I’m thirty years young. Helping and healing others has always been my passion in life, and it truly brings me the most joy and gratitude. Because of that, I work as a crystal healing therapist and oracle card reader.
As an artist, I love to draw; traditionally and digitally. I also love learning, and I wish to continue growing and evolving.
I’m a sensitive soul, open-minded, and deeply empathetic. I feel I have been blessed with many gifts, and I wish to use them during my time on this planet. Sending all my love.

2) What made you take up art?
I’m not sure I remember, to be honest. I just took to it naturally and always seemed to have an artistic vision and the talent to make that seen.
For many years, due to mental illness and a toxic living environment, I didn’t create.
Fast forward to living in an environment where I was able to heal, and I began creating again.

3) What are your favorite mediums to work with and why?
Definitely my iPad. I prefer digital media because it’s so uniquely diverse in the way you can create.
I typically do sketch on notebook paper first, though. Then I take a photo and create the digital art you see here.

4) How does your queerness (and other identities in your layers) intersect with your art? What do you like about that?
I think my queerness in inherent to who I am as a person and on a soul level. That is absolutely intersectional with my art and to my expression.
I love that because I love me, and that’s something I’ve recently come to understand + worked really hard on to get there.

5) What is the current project you are working on?
I have a couple. I’m working on the Mizou Region, my own Pokémon region that I hope to one day develop into a fan fiction and/or game.

I also have my spirit art series, which is a series of portraits produced via intuition. They are spirit guides. Angels, totems, extraterrestrials, fairies, dragons, unicorns, and so much more.
I plan on publishing my own oracle deck using these pieces and am excited to see where that takes me.

6) What’s the queerest piece you’ve ever proudly created?
Not gonna lie, probably some NSFW art I won’t be sharing lol.
It’s like, the one piece I’ve done like that, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s of a sexy troll.

7) What is your typical creative process like?
That depends heavily on the content I’m creating. My Fakemon are inspired by a number of different media. These ideas range from jokes to actual animals. Stuff like that.

The creative process for my spirit art is more intuitive. I have to tap in from a place within that is on a higher level than normal, and from that place, I channel and intuitively interpret that energy in the form of art.

8) What are some themes and/or subjects you are particularly drawn to?
Fantasy and sci-fi, as I’m sure you’ve already guessed! I love Pokémon and Digimon.
I love all the “ ‘mon stuff. ”

They heavily influence my style and the work I do. Even my spirit art has a touch of this style.

9) And how can we support you as a queer artist?
Shout out time! Commission me! I’m mostly kidding, but I’m also a little serious.
If you lack the financial means to do so, follow me and my art. Share it where and when you can.
Tell your friends about me and show them my work. We have to support each other as artists!
