‘The Fox Who Became A Girl’ is Out Now! See What People Are Saying…

Within this storybook you will find a fable of love, and of longing, a fable for anyone who has ever wished to be CHANGED…

“A sweet, vibrantly-drawn fable bursting with queer joy!”

– Johanna Taylor, creator of THE GHOSTKEEPER

Chloe Bear and Orion Fern brought the award-winning story THE FOX WHO BECAME A GIRL to life by collaboratively answering the simple question from their conversations:

“What if there were folklore stories and fairy tales that included trans and queer lives?”

Released in print and digital August 17th, 2024, it debuted at the Grand Rapids Zine Fest in Michigan, where Orion’s partner lives. THE FOX WHO BECAME A GIRL is an all ages trans and queer fairy tale!

The story began as a small 3 page story written by Chloe that Orion fell in love with, requesting if Chloe could adapt it to be a comic script. From there Orion took hold of it and brought it to the visual realm illustrating it with pencils, ink and Gansai Tambi watercolor paints traditionally with input from Chloe. Lettering, digital editing and final book design also done by Orion with assistance from Chloe in editing. Supported in all printed material by The Greater Denton Arts Council for the final push to the end. Printed with precision by KENESS!

“This beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written tale puts me in happy tears every time I read it. It’s truly a beautiful story everyone can cherish.”

– Cian Gracey, Studio Gearpunk, creator of FRACTURED

THE FOX WHO BECAME A GIRL was awarded a micro grant by the Greater Denton Arts Council in the Summer of 2023 for excellency in the arts. These micro grants uplift up and coming creators in the Denton, TX city and surrounding towns in Denton County, where Orion lives. The micro grant was put towards the printing of the first one hundred comic books featuring the Fox’s story. Thank you endlessly to the Greater Denton Arts Council!

– Elaine M. Will (author of LOOK STRAIGHT AHEAD and THE LAST BAND ON EARTH

We continue to be grateful to everyone who reads THE FOX WHO BECAME A GIRL!

Reviewers have loved the comic, Phillip Kelly of Fanbase Press urges:

“The world created here is one that we should strive to surround trans people with. It’s really a beautiful book in this regard, teaching things that I wish more people understood.”

HFE from HFE Productions provides us with his inspired thoughts on the bonus extras included:

“The how-to-make-comics section in the back of the book. I went to a comics making camp as a kid, and those pages reminded me of that. Seeing the craft Chloe and Orion put into The Fox makes me want to give comics-making another shot.”

And Sammy at Sam’s Studios assures us that in the end…

“…it’s a beautiful tale I would recommend to anyone who enjoys whimsical folktales with happy endings.”
